Research and Planning

I started off by exploring video clips so I could see what types of film I could make that would appeal to the audience. I needed to first assess the practicality of the films watched so it would be for a suitable target audience linguistics.

I looked at some short films made by The Conner Brothers, so I get an idea of what other people have produced and from that I can then decide whether or not to target a specific audience or have a variety of audiences. Here are some few short films I've looked at:

Fear of Night by The Conner Brothers

It's about a killer on the loose at night. The setting for this short film is very simply as it's just in a room, this would be an easy project to take on as you would need to change locations. This is a very affect film as the concept is commonly used but you can interpret it in your own way which can lead you to be very creative with it. I could also change locations to give more emphasis as it would make it more interesting and also would appeal to a wider audience, as the director for this short film I personally feel that could only be targeted at an audience that like simple horrors. They've used no more than about 14 simply set ups, which is enough to edit the final shots together. I think that the less set ups use, the more footage you will get out of it and it would be easier to edit the film together. Over all, I think this is a good short film as it's simple and they haven't used so many characters so it's easier to follow the story.

Visions of death by The Conner Brothers

[Video for this film was taken off the website]

This short film is about two beggars trying to get back at society. This film wasn't that amazing compared to previous short films I've seen before, it was quite boring and it dragged on for a bit. the crash at the end wasn't so affective as we couldn't see the real impact of the crash, I think this film is really low budgeted some of the footage shot were just basic edited. They could have used more effects so it would draw the audience into their film. If I was to make a film like this I would have added more effects and changed the editing of it as there isn't much done to it. I would would try to incorporate a car crash but I would also need a bigger budget to do so, but i would make it look more realistic and exciting to the audience so they would have something to look forward to.

Night Scares by The Conner Brothers

This film is about a man that is terrorized by an evil hitchhiker. The film needed more than one character to follow this type of horror. This has done quite well as its very effective as there are a lot of affects being used. It's a basic horror film that has a good base as they've used simply ideas to create a standard horror film. I enjoyed this film as you can tell that they've thought about every aspect for the film: the mise on scene, lighting, camera shots, etc. They've used about 5-6 setup to create this film which is pretty good. It could be developed more and they could have changed the story a bit because the start of it was good, but towards the end it just died out.

Its about a man just released from prison tries to get his life back in order. From the start of the film the camera work is shaky, its quiet distracting but more I watched the film I got use to it. Its not a very interesting piece of work as most of the scenes are set in two places, I would say there is a limited amount of set ups used to create this short film.
